The career of Charlie Wes Harris includes professional work in academe and public service. He is Professor Emeritus at Howard University where he taught political theory and, subsequently, served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. As Associate Dean he was responsible for preparing and handling the College budget of $24 million.
Harris is former part-time professor at Georgetown University, and was recipient of full-time research grants from the Ford Foundation, Woodrow Wilson Center, Brookings Institution, and Howard University. His U.S. Government service includes appointments at the US Civil Service Commission (now OMB), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Congressional Research Service (CRS) where he was Senior Specialist (GS-18, prior SES) and Chief of the Government Division during the key role of CRS in the implementation of the Congressional Reorganization Act.
He is the author of five scholarly books/monographs, and many journal articles. Neeka and the Squirrel Highway is his first children’s book and first fictional work. In addition to writing projects, Harris serves as President of Bob and Fanny Harris, LLC – a family owned mineral deposits corporation.
Charlie Harris graduated from Morehouse College, cum laude, and earned Advance degrees at the University of Pennsylvania (M.A.) and the University of Wisconsin Madison (Ph.D.). He was joined in marriage with Edna Jefferson of Texas and they are parents of two grown daughters, Neeka Jones and Angela Olurotimi.
